Blazing Fire Trilogy – The second installment of the Blazing Fire Trilogy is set to be released on Friday July 26. Here is a small sneak peek from the book for your enjoyment.

Blaise sighed as she looked at the mess of files and papers on the ground. She left them there as she finally located her keys and unlocked the door. She tossed her bag inside and then lowered herself to the front step to retrieve her night’s work. It would take her some time to restore order to the files and she was annoyed that the bath she had been so looking forward to would now have to wait.

With the mass of papers held precariously in her arms she navigated into the house and then pulled the door closed behind her.

And then she stopped and let the whole mess fall to the floor again.

Sprawled out in one of her armchairs was a man. He was asleep. With her heart pounding, frozen in place, she stared at him.

He was tall. His long legs stretched out in front of him with the ankles hooked over each other. His arm was bent at the elbow and his head was resting on his hand. Long blonde hair flopped over his downturned head so she couldn’t really see his face. He was dressed in ordinary clothes that somehow didn’t seem to fit him right. And it wasn’t the way they pulled tightly over his muscular arms and chest. There was something about him that just felt…weird. Something other worldly.

She shivered. What a ridiculous thought.

What should she do? Call the police? Scream for help? Beat him with her stack of papers?

She slowly bent down at her knees and fumbled into her bag. Rummaging inside for her cellphone she found it buried at the bottom under everything else. She grabbed it and was about to dial the number for the police when the bracelet on her wrist began to suddenly burn again, worse than before. She yelped and dropped her phone back into her purse. She rubbed at the spot on her wrist and yelped again, because she could have sworn she saw light reflecting in the five red stones of the bracelet.

Cursing her stupid luck she felt for the phone again and got hold of it. Just as she stood up to dial the number she felt someone grab her arm from behind. She screamed.

A hand went over her mouth and an arm came around her waist. She struggled against the iron grip the man’s arms had on her. The bracelet was red hot around her wrist again. It had never been this hot before. She was sure her skin would be blistered from the heat. She tried to look at even as she was struggling to get away.

“Stop fighting me, I’m not going to hurt you.” A soft voice whispered in her left ear. Something about the voice calmed her. As her heartbeat slowed, the pain in her wrist lessened, and she was able to relax and think a bit. “If I take my hand away,” the man asked her, “will you be quiet?”

She nodded, sure she would scream the first chance he gave her. The intruder’s hand slowly lifted away from her mouth and she pulled away from him and turned to look up into his face, taking in a huge breath to scream bloody murder.

Instead the breath caught in her throat. He had the most intense eyes she had ever seen. They were grey and deep and it felt like they were boring holes into her. His gaze slid to her wrist, watching as she rubbed at it absently.

Okay, so she wasn’t going to scream and she wasn’t going to hit the cute guy over the head with the nearest heavy object. But she couldn’t just let him wander around her house without asking him why. “What do you want? I don’t have anything worth stealing.”

The corner of his mouth lifted in a small smile. “If I had wanted to steal your stuff then I would have been long gone by now.” His voice was quiet and precise and sent a tremor rushing through her. He was more than cute. He was gorgeous. Then his words sunk in and she involuntarily stepped back further away from him.

If he didn’t want her stuff then there was only one other thing that he could want. That was her. Panic was setting in and it must have shown on her face. She tensed, ready to run, but she wasn’t quick enough and he grabbed hold of her arm again to stop her. She whimpered.

“It’s okay. I’m not going to hurt you. I just need to talk to you.”

“Really? Seriously? Most people just pick up a phone, you know. Let go! I’ll scream. I swear to God I will!”

“I…couldn’t exactly pick up a phone where I was.”He loosened his grip just a bit. “Come on, let’s sit down, Blaise. I have a story to tell you.”

Now she was even more confused than ever. Was this man some sort of crazy person who had escaped from an asylum? What story could he have to tell her that she could possibly want to listen to? “How do you know my name?”

“That’s actually part of the story. It’s about you, more or less. And your father.”

She felt like she’d been punched in the gut. She didn’t know what to say. Didn’t know what to do. She was mad and angry and curious and frightened all at once. Still, she let him lead her to the couch without fighting him and then sat down next to him when he gently insisted.

“The story I have to tell you began before you were born, Blaise. It starts, in the land of Fae. My name is Kailen Drake, and that’s where I’m from. And actually it’s where you’re from too…”
